Blue Jackets select new captain, to be unveiled prior to next season

Someone's about to put the "C" in Columbus.

John Davidson - the Blue Jackets' president of hockey operations - recently confirmed the club has settled on its first captain since Rick Nash, but isn't quite ready to reveal who it will be.

From the Columbus Business Journal:

We know who it's going to be. We'll name a captain by the start of next season and that's a step forward. He's popped, he's a person that's carried himself with outstanding leadership.

The top candidates for the role appear to be Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner, Scott Hartnell, Brandon Dubinsky and Jack Johnson, according to "informed speculation" from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post-Dispatch.

The new captain will be the franchise's sixth.
