Overview:

The 18-year-old Russian is a smooth skater with great hands, an accurate shot and is a force to be reckoned with offensively.

His dream is to play in the NHL and he hopes to continue to develop his skills enough to one day make his dream come true.

"I want to make an NHL team and if I have to play more in the Canadian Hockey League or the American Hockey League, it doesn't matter," Svechnikov told NHL.com. "I was able to bring a few things I learned in Russia to the North American game but it's a different game here. The simple things worked here but not everything."

Defense is not a big part of his game, but his skills from the offensive end more than make up for his defensive shortcomings.

What the scouts are saying:

“He possesses high-end puck skills especially when in traffic, is always in the right positions to be open or receive a pass. He was a presence on the ice and was always around the net for scoring opportunities. He works and competes with his skill and assets." - NHL Director of Central Scouting Dan Marr

"He proved to be a very skilled skater, strong on the puck, and a player capable of doing a lot of things well. He plays a physical game, doesn't back away, is aggressive on the forecheck, and finishes checks." - NHL Central Scouting’s Troy Dumville

"Evgeny Svechnikov is a skilled big man with strength and power. He's produced impressive QMJHL rookie numbers and it's not a surprise given his silky smooth puck skills. Svechnikov's puck handling is particularly impressive in tight quarters where he dangles through legs and sticks with ease. His best quality is adaptability, knowing when to use his power game versus his skilled game. This two-way attacking ability only makes Svechnikov a more attractive prospect. Throughout his development, both internationally and in the CHL, Svechnikov has flashed an explosive skilled game yet also plays a gritty North American game. At this point in time, the team drafting this powerful Russian will have the luxury of molding him into whatever player they choose. His overall package is extremely attractive and suited for the pro game." - Dobber Sports' Brendan Ross
