San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns, Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano and New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist have been named finalists for the NHL Foundation Player Award.

Burns and his family showed support for several military organizations, including Defending the Blue Line, Operation: Care and Comfort, and Folds of Honor.

The 30-year-old defenseman also created "Burnzie's Buzzcut" - a fundraiser where he and his teammates shave their heads to raise money for the San Francisco Zoo and the Katie Moore Foundation.

Giordano, 31, created a community program called "5-for-5" that partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes in foreign countries.

The defenseman also created Team Giordano and donated $100,000 to Calgary-area schools.

Lundqvist helped raise funds for several organizations through the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation and the Garden of Dreams Foundation,

The honor is awarded annually to the NHL player who best applies the core values of ice hockey - commitment, perseverance and teamwork - to enrich the lives of people in his community.
