Islanders GM Snow gives Capuano a vote of confidence after early playoff exit

Garth Snow has no intentions of looking for a new head coach this summer.

Despite a first-round playoff exit, the New York Islanders general manager is satisfied with the work done by Jack Capuano and his staff, and confirmed Thursday that no changes are forthcoming behind the bench.

"Our coaches did a great job, whether it was preparing our players or with the communication between coaches and players, which was outstanding," Snow said Thursday.

He did, however, pinpoint some areas that need work over the offseason.

There were some aspects of our game, whether it was with our penalty-kill that struggled early on and became a strength for us by the end, or our power play, which was a strength at times early on and we didn't have one in the playoffs. That's an area of concern. We'll analyze all different areas of our team and try to get better.

Furthermore, Snow chalks up the series loss to the Washington Capitals as a valuable learning experience.

"To lose in the fashion we did, not just in a Game 7 but not really bringing our 'A' game, it makes it that much more disappointing," he confessed. "We have a young team and you would think because of the age of some of our players, it would be a great learning experience for us in the future."

Capuano guided the team to a record of 47-28-7, and the 101 points earned in the standings were the most by the Islanders since 1983-84.
