Senators' Cowen to have sports hernia surgery

Another NHLer will go under the knife this offseason. 

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray told reporters Wednesday that defenseman Jared Cowen will undergo sports hernia surgery. 

Cowen had been out of the lineup since March 29, mostly as a healthy scratch.

The blue-liner had three goals and nine points in 54 games.
