Rangers become 2nd team to score 2 goals or less in all 4 playoff series wins

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers may not be all that encouraged after making history in their opening-round series victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While the Rangers managed to dispose of the Penguins in five games, it wasn't due to an abundance of offense.

What makes this even more dubious is the fact the Penguins were without three of their top defensemen in the series, namely Kris Letang, Christian Ehrhoff and Olli Maatta.

Most notably, regular season goal leader Rick Nash (42) was held to one goal in five games, while Martin St. Louis - who ranked second with 21 - failed to hit the back of the net.

The Rangers did manage to contain superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, but will need to get the sticks going if they're going to return to the Stanley Cup Final.
