There are many things that can be considered unfair about the Draft Lottery process, and judging Connor McDavid based on his immediate reaction is one of them.

The unchallenged future No. 1-overall selection hardly looked thrilled to learn the Edmonton Oilers had won the rights to select him, but according to his father, it was a look of shock - not disappointment.

"He would have had the exact same expression on his face if the winner had been Buffalo, Toronto or Arizona. The reality is that his future had just been decided by bingo balls," Brian McDavid told Terry Jones from the Edmonton Sun.

The disappointment felt by opposing fans is understandable, much like the moment maybe being too big for the 18-year-old.

"Connor is very aware of the rich history and the passionate fans in Edmonton and would be proud and humbled to follow in the steps of those great players and teams," Brian added.

Suffice to say, you can expect his look to change when he's called to the podium first.

"If he's selected first overall by the Oilers on draft day, it's going to be a big thrill for him."
