The big news on Monday in the NHL was the mutual agreement between the San Jose Sharks and head coach Todd McLellan to part ways.

After a rough season - in which the franchise missed the postseason for the first time in ten years - general manager Doug Wilson met with the media to discuss the decision.

Wilson was broad and transparent when discussing the future of the team and their plans moving forward in the selection of a new coach.

The GM made it clear that the decision was indeed a mutual one between the organization and McLellan, stating that the coach came to him last weekend and told him, "It's time."

Wilson continued by explaining that the Sharks were in no rush to find a new coach and would search all avenues - including junior and minor-pro hockey - to find the right candidate for the vacant position, and that he's interested in finding someone to coach the team for a long haul.

"I'd like to start another 10 year run of making the playoffs," said Wilson.

McLellan leaves the Sharks with a record of 311-163-66.
