Scuderi on Penguins' penalties: 'Four in one period is not going to get it done'

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi had some harsh words for his team following their Game 1 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday.

Scuderi felt the Penguins were undisciplined in the 2-1 defeat. Pittsburgh was called for four penalties in the first period after falling behind early, allowing the Rangers to take a 2-0 lead.

"That's way too many penalties in a postseason game," Scuderi said after the contest. "Usually you want to keep it to two, maybe three. Four in one period is not going to get it done."

Scuderi left briefly in the third period after being hit in the face by an errant stick and returned sporting stitches across the bridge of his nose, but it wasn't enough to inspire a Pittsburgh comeback after their problematic start.

"We don't generate any momentum because half the guys are sitting on the bench and not playing and keeping their legs warm," Scuderi added. "By the time we pull ourselves out of those penalties the period is pretty much over. It's not something we can repeat."

The Penguins and the Rangers continue their first-round series with Game 2 on Saturday.
