Flames sign NCAA champion Gillies to entry-level contract

The Calgary Flames have signed Providence goaltender Jon Gillies to an entry-level contract.

TSN's Darren Dreger reports the it's a three-year entry-level deal.

Gillies, who won a NCAA national title with the Friars on Saturday, decided to opt out of his senior year with the school.

The 21-year-old made 49 saves against Boston University in the championship game to help his team to a 4-3 upset win.

The netminder was drafted by the Flames in the third round of the 2012 draft.

He owned a 24-13-2 record with a 2.01 goals-against average in 39 games for the Friars.
