Jamie Benn set to follow up Art Ross win with hip surgery

Bruce Fedyck / USA TODAY Sports

Jamie Benn will celebrate his scoring title by going under the knife.

The Dallas Stars forward and captain is set to undergo offseason hip surgery, it was announced Monday.

Benn, named the NHL's first star of the week, ripped through the final days of the regular season, recording seven goals and six assists in his last five games to come out on top of the Art Ross Trophy race with 87 points.

The hip injury is believed to have bothered him for most of the season, rendering his accomplishments all the more impressive.

Based on this news, it would seem unlikely that he will be called upon by general manager Jim Nill to play for Canada at the World Championships.
