Penguins turn to Thomas Greiss with season teetering

Jim O'Connor / USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins will start Thomas Greiss in a near must-win matinee clash Sunday versus the Philadelphia Flyers

Marc-Andre Fleury, of course, allowed four goals in a loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, but the decision to sit the clear-cut No. 1 is likely rooted deeper than Mike Johnston's reluctance to start him in both games on a back-to-back.

Fleury has allowed eight goals in two games – both losses – to Philadelphia this season and has just one win in his last seven starts against the Flyers.

To that, Greiss has also outplayed him in the month of March. He's allowed just seven goals in five appearances and both his losses came with the Penguins shut out at the other end.

Pittsburgh is three points clear of the postseason cut-off with four games to play.
