Blackhawks will start backup Darling in net against Kings

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings have met in important games before and the two are set to do the same on Monday.

With the Kings fighting for a playoff spot at the bottom of the Western Conference and the Blackhawks trying to fend off the scorching hot Minnesota Wild for third spot in the Central Division standings, Chicago will start backup goaltender Scott Darling over regular starter Corey Crawford.

The move isn't too surprising as Crawford played on Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets, earning the win after allowing three goals on 34 shots.

Darling took over the backup role from Antti Raanta earlier this season and has a record of 7-3-0 with a goals against average of 1.84 in 11 appearances.
