Report: Shane Doan will not face discipline for injurious hit on Kris Letang

Shane Doan walks.

That's the verdict reportedly reached by the NHL's Department of Player Safety after reviewing the Arizona Coyotes captain's hit on Kris Letang, one that left the Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman hospitalized and concussed.

From Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona:

Assessment of Shane Doan's hit on Kris Letang per NHL Player Safety:

"After reviewing the play carefully and from all angles, we have determined that this was an unfortunate result from a hockey play. It is not boarding, it is not charging, he doesn't hit him in the head. He finishes his check by shoving Letang and unfortunately he falls awkwardly. It wasn't really even a violent hit, although resulted in an unfortunate injury."

The incident can be viewed again here:

Doan was not penalized on the play, and there is no timetable for Letang's return to the ice.
