Jason Garrison is headed back to Tampa Bay and will not accompany the Lightning at the next stop of their five-game road trip.

Garrison won't play Monday against the Montreal Canadiens after leaving Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings following a collision along the boards with Justin Abdelkader early in the first period.

Unlike teammate Cedric Paquette, Garrison was able to skate off under his own power.

He left the game and did not return. After the contest, the Lightning said Garrison suffered an upper-body injury.

Abdelkader was assessed a boarding minor.

The Lightning conclude their road swing this week with stops in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Sunrise, Fla.
