Senators' Hammond 'good to go' Thursday after suffering injury vs. Sharks

Marc DesRosiers / USA Today

Ottawa Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond says the injury he sustained Monday against the San Jose Sharks won't prevent him from facing the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

"I feel better today," he told reporters after practice Wednesday. "I just got a little banged up, but today I feel good, so I'll be good to go tomorrow night."

Hammond collided with Sharks forward Logan Couture in the third period of Ottawa's 5-2 win on Monday.

"It's that time of the year where your body feels the bruises a little bit more but I feel good," Hammond said. "It's just minor and nothing serious that will keep me from playing and playing at a high level."

He is 14-0-1 with a 1.67 goals-against average and .946 save percentage in 16 games. His stellar play has rocketed the Senators into the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Ottawa faces the Toronto Maple Leafs on the road Saturday, followed by the Florida Panthers at home on Sunday.
