The San Jose Sharks exploded for two goals in 23 seconds in the second period of Monday's must-win contest against the Ottawa Senators.

The Sharks and the Senators are both desperately trying to earn playoff spots in the final weeks of the season, and Ottawa had the upper hand after 20 minutes. But Joe Pavelski knotted the contest by banging home a rebound on a power play with 7:13 to go in the second period, and Chris Tierney deposited a backhand on a rush on the following play to put San Jose in front.

Mika Zibanejad added his second goal of the contest for Ottawa to forge a 2-2 tie 2:19 into the third period. The Senators scored three more times in the third to seal their seventh straight victory.
