Avalanche's MacKinnon out 6-8 weeks with broken foot

Nathan MacKinnon's sophomore season has taken another unfortunate turn.

The Colorado Avalanche forward will miss the next six-to-weeks with a fractured foot.

Head coach Patrick Roy said MacKinnon initially hurt his foot blocking a shot in a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Feb. 22, but X-rays came back negative.

He injured the foot again in Wednesday's win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and an MRI taken Thursday revealed the severity.

MacKinnon also suffered a broken nose in Saturday's loss to the Minnesota Wild, but played on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old appeared in all 64 games for the Avalanche, scoring 14 goals and adding 24 assists.

MacKinnon, drafted first overall by Colorado in 2013, had five goals in his last five contests.
