Red Wings' Marchenko placed on IR with strained oblique muscle

Alexei Marchenko (oblique) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Analysis:

The transaction came after GM Ken Holland announced Monday afternoon that Marchenko suffered a strained oblique muscle in Saturday's game against the Predators, during which he scored his first NHL goal. The Red Wings have been satisfied with Marchenko's play since he arrived from AHL Grand Rapids in late January, but he'll have to wait a bit for his next chance to play. Holland said he expects to the blueliner to miss about a week of action.
