Mark Giordano: Out For Season With Torn Biceps Tendon

General manager Brad Treliving announced Monday that Giordano will require surgery to repair a complete tendon tear of his biceps, which will sideline him for the remainder of the season, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Analysis:

The season-ending injury is nearly as damaging to the Flames as Patrick Kane's loss is to the Blackhawks. With 48 points in 61 games, Giordano was considered a frontrunner for the Norris Trophy, and has been the MVP of a Flames squad that surprisingly finds itself in playoff contention this late in the season. The outstanding two-way play Giordano brings to the ice is in no way replaceable, so it's not terribly surprising the Flames weren't more active in acquiring blue line help at the deadline. Giordano is expected to require four-to-five months to recover from the injury, putting him on track to be healthy for the start of the 2015-16 campaign.
