NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at Columbus

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Schneider made 33 saves and Andy Greene netted the deciding goal in the New Jersey Devils' 2-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Schneider backstopped the Devils to their fifth win in seven games by posting his second shutout in six days, having turned aside 38 chances in Monday's 3-0 triumph over Arizona.

"It starts with our goaltender," Devils co-head coach Lou Lamoriello stated. "We go through our defense then we get to our forwards. Right now that's our assets and strengths and you work off that. Cory was once again outstanding."

Travis Zajac added an empty-net score in the final minute that sealed the Blue Jackets' fifth loss in a row. Curtis McElhinney stopped 17-of-18 shots for Columbus.

The Devils didn't record their first shot until 4:42 was left in the opening period, but they scored just 29 seconds after finally putting one on the board.

Greene jumped into the play during a rush up the ice, took in a pass from Patrik Elias and ripped a shot over McElhinney's glove to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead that Schneider made stand the rest of the way.

"I really liked our first," Columbus head coach Todd Richards said. "They didn't spend a lot of time in our zone. It was disappointing coming out down 1-0 after the period."

Schneider made eight saves during an uneventful second period but was busy in the third, with Columbus ripping off 16 shots while turning up the intensity over the final 20 minutes.

The Blue Jackets had a chance to draw even when Devils defenseman Mark Fraser was sent off on a hooking call with 7:07 left to play. Columbus put up three shots during the 5-on-4 but came up empty.

Schneider foiled two more chances with McElhinney pulled in the last minute before Zajac finished off a 2-on-1 with Stephen Gionta by wristing the puck into the vacated net with 30 seconds left.
