Sabres' Stewart on potential trade: 'If it does happen, I'm chomping at the bit'

Chris Stewart is well aware this weekend could be his last with the Buffalo Sabres.

The pending unrestricted free agent has been the subject of trade rumors for a while as Buffalo tries to maximize its assets in a rebuilding year. His point totals with the Sabres aren't impressive (11 goals and 25 points in 66 games), but he scored 28 goals in consecutive seasons earlier in his career.

Stewart doesn't regret anything about his time in Buffalo, but the prospect of moving to a playoff contender has him intrigued.

"If it does happen, I'm chomping at the bit," Stewart told Mike Harrington of Buffalo News.

Stewart has enjoyed his most productive months with the Sabres in January and February, recording 15 points in 24 contests. His time on ice has increased as well, peaking at an average of 18:47 in 13 February games. Whether this will improve his trade value remains to be seen, but Buffalo has until Monday to find a suitable offer for the 27-year-old.
