San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture has been fined $5,000 for a slew-foot on Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith, the Department of Player Safety announced Friday.

The incident occurred late in the third period of Thursday's game.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement and marks the third time this season a player has been given supplemental discipline for a slew-footing incident.

Dallas Stars winger Ryan Garbutt was suspended three games and Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was given a two-game ban.
