The Blackhawks have placed Kane (upper body) on long-term injured reserve, the team's official site reports.

Analysis:

In a corresponding move, the team recalled forward Teuvo Teravainen from AHL Rockford. Per the Chicago Sun-Times, there are fears that Kane suffered a clavicle injury Tuesday, and while the Blackhawks did not provide an official update on the forward's status Wednesday morning, ESPN.com has indicated that he'll be out 6-to-10 weeks. That timeline would likely keep Kane out until deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs, which will likely motivate the Blackhawks to add another winger via trade. By placing Kane on LTIR, the cap-strapped squad will at least be able to free up around $5 million in salary room ahead of the deadline.
