Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane has been placed on long-term injured reserve, the club announced Wednesday.

Kane left Tuesday's game against the Florida Panthers after being cross-checked into the boards by defenseman Alex Petrovic.

Kane's injury is being described as significant, according to Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman says the area of concern is Kane's shoulder and collarbone, which is consistent with the way he fell into the boards during Tuesday's game.

Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports Kane will miss more than six weeks and possibly as many as 10. Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago is also reporting a 6-to-10 week recovery timetable.

Kane is tied with Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek and centre Nicklas Backstrom for the league points lead with 64 in 61 games.

The Blackhawks recalled top prospect Teuvo Teravainen from their AHL affiliate in Rockford and reassigned defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk in a corresponding move.
