(SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Lightning shoot for their first three-game winning streak in a month when they visit the Colorado Avalanche for Sunday's clash at Pepsi Center.
Tampa is 3-1-0 on a five-game road trip that ends tonight in Denver. The Bolts earned their second straight win Saturday night, downing the Arizona Coyotes by a 4-2 count.
Ondrej Palat scored two goals and Ben Bishop made 20 saves to help the Lightning pick up the win and hand Arizona its eighth straight home defeat. Ryan Callahan had a goal and an assist for the Lightning, who last won three in a row from Jan. 15-20.
The Lightning improved their road record to 15-12-5 with the win, while Palat extended his point streak to three games. He has three goals and three assists during the run.
"Ultimately, it's another road win for us," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "They all may not come in the prettiest style, but when I wake up tomorrow and we have two more points than we did before the game, we'll take that."
Despite adding another two points, the Lightning are one behind Montreal for first place in the Atlantic Division. The Canadiens are idle on Sunday.
The Avalanche, who are seven points out of a playoff spot in the West, won for the third time in four outings with Friday's 4-1 win in Chicago.
A struggling Colorado power play surprisingly found success against the NHL's top penalty-killing unit in the win. Gabriel Landeskog and Tyson Barrie scored power-play goals 24 seconds apart in the third period as the Colorado Avalanche posted a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Friday night at United Center.
Barrie finished with two goals and one assist for the Avalanche, who had been 1-for-38 on the man advantage in their previous 13 games. Landeskog scored in a personal-best fifth straight game, and Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 Chicago shots in his career-high 15th consecutive start.
"Our power play has been well below average and that was big for us, confidence-wise, to get that early one and get another one," Barrie said.
Varlamov is expected to start again tonight, while backup Andrei Vasilevskiy could get the call for Tampa.
Tampa Bay owns a 3-1-1 mark in its last five meetings against the Avs overall, but Colorado has claimed five straight and nine of the past 10 encounters in Denver. The Lightning last picked up a win in the Mile High City on March 1, 2004.
Colorado is 15-12-3 as the host this season.
