Avalanche's Tyson Barrie will not play Thursday vs. Red Wings

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie will miss Thursday's game against the Detroit Red Wings due to a hip flexor injury, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Barrie will be sidelined for the first time this season with the injury, which he likely acquired during Tuesday's victory over the Stars. Stefan Elliott will replace Barrie on the Avs' top power-play unit and on an even-strength pairing with Nate Guenin on Thursday, but he'll likely head back to the press box thereafter. Coach Patrick Roy said that he expects Barrie to return to the lineup for the Avs' next game Saturday against the Wild.
