Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jeremy Morin was taken to hospital in the second intermission of Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals

Morin left the arena in an ambulance after complaining that his accelerated heart rate would not slow down, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

General manager Jarmo Kealainen said Morin's condition improved after he was transported for tests.

“His resting heart rate wasn’t going down. It’s nothing serious. I’m not sure if he’s going to need further tests or not, but everything was fine. His heart rate calmed while he was being tested at the hospital.”

Kekelainen said the move was precautionary.

“We don’t know if it’s a one-time thing with Jeremy or not. We took him to the hospital as a precaution, just to make sure. He’s going to be monitored. We’ll have to make sure he’s OK before he plays again. The health of the players is the most important thing.”

The Blue Jackets have placed the forward on injured reserve, meaning he is ineligible to play for at least a week.

Morin remained in hospital overnight and is expected to be released on Wednesday.
