The New Jersey Devils will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first Stanley Cup championship by reuniting the squad later this winter.

More than 20 players and coaches from the 1994-95 team are expected to be on hand when the Devils honor them on the weekend of March 7 and 8, according to a release.

The festivities will include an alumni charity game on Saturday and a special ceremony prior to Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

“We are all looking forward to welcoming the coaches, players and staff, as well as their families, from our first championship team back here to New Jersey,” Devils’ president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

“That was a team with tremendous character, with great coaches, great players and quality individuals.  They set the standard to which all of our other teams have been compared to.”

The Devils swept the Detroit Red Wings 4-0 in the 1995 Cup Final, the first of three championships in nine years.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur played an instrumental role in the victories, but given his looming retirement announcement and reportedly imminent appointment to the St. Louis Blues' front office, his attendance is not a certainty.

Even so, the weekend should be a memorable one for Devils fans with little to be excited about regarding this year's squad.
