Hurricanes coach on Alex Semin's performance: 'Talk is cheap'

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peter and forward Alex Semin don't appear to be seeing eye-to-eye these days.

The high-priced forward has seen himself oft-scratched by the club's new bench boss, and the message in regards to what's expected of him does not appear to be getting through.

"Obviously something's not right," Peters opined to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer on Tuesday morning. "Talk is cheap, though, right?

"It's not frustrating to me," he added. "We just play the guys who dig in and work and play with speed."

Semin, who's under contract through to the end of the 2017-18 season with a $7-million annual cap hit, has appeared in only 26 games this season due to injury and coach's decisions, scoring one goal and adding seven assists in that span.

He did, however, average 0.79 points per game over the past two seasons in Carolina, meaning he has meshed with the club's on-ice personnel prior to Peters' arrival.

It's a situation that bears watching, as Semin is an unlikely trade candidate due primarily to his incredibly restrictive contract valuation.
