No Sidney Crosby? No Evgeni Malkin? No problem for Kris Letang and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Letang returned from a brief injury absence and had a hand in setting up all five of Pittsburgh's goals in a 5-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
Here's what you need to know from Tuesday's game:
- The Penguins improved to 8-0-1 since 2011 in games without Crosby and Malkin, both of whom are dealing with lower-body injuries. Crosby was forced to miss Tuesday's game after withdrawing from All-Star weekend, while Malkin is on injured reserve.
- Letang missed last Wednesday's contest after being the recipient of a dangerous hit the night before, but he didn't miss a beat in his return to the lineup, recording two primary assists and three secondary helpers.
- David Perron recorded a goal and an assist, continuing his strong play since he was traded by the Edmonton Oilers. He has nine points in nine games with Pittsburgh.
- Patric Hornqvist scored in his return to the Penguins' lineup after missing a month with a lower-body injury.
- Evander Kane recorded three assists for the Jets.
- Winnipeg netminder Ondrej Pavelec made 25 saves in his first start since Jan. 18, falling to 2-3-1 in January.
- Pittsburgh swept the Jets in their two-game season series after also winning 4-3 in a shootout in Winnipeg on Nov. 6.
