Steve Mason is being forced back into action earlier than the Philadelphia Flyers hoped.

Ray Emery started Tuesday's game against the Arizona Coyotes but lasted only five minutes and 50 seconds. He allowed two goals on four shots before being pulled in favor of Mason, who is playing for the first time since Jan. 10 due to a knee injury.

Emery has been pulled three times in four January starts.
