Blues extend Martin Brodeur's leave of absence

Hockey Hall of Fame bound goaltender Martin Brodeur needs a little more time to reflect on what's next.

The legendary netminder, who has appeared in a small handful of games this season with the St. Louis Blues, was granted a leave of absence from the team last week. That leave has now been extended.

"With the All-Star break already on the way, the Blues have given Marty more time to reflect," Brodeurs agent Pat Brisson of Creative Artists Agency Sports told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday. "Everything should be clearer post All-Star next week."

TSN's Darren Dreger also discussed Brodeur's status during an Insider Trading segment on Tuesday.

"He needs a bit more time, he still wants to play, but he's intrigued by a few more options that are out there and that includes perhaps joining management of the St. Louis Blues," Dreger said. "There's been contact with (GM) Doug Armstrong, but this decision won't be made until after the All-Star break."

Brodeur has managed a sub-.900 save percentage in seven appearances with the Blues.
