(SportsNetwork.com) - After struggling to score goals over a three-game losing streak, the Vancouver Canucks have scored seven times in back-to-back wins.
They haven't need five of those thanks to goaltender Ryan Miller.
The Canucks resume a five-game road trip looking to stay in the win column on Monday evening as they visit the Florida Panthers.
Vancouver was outscored 9-2 over a three-game slide from Jan. 8-13, getting beat 5-1 in Nashville last Tuesday to begin this road trip. But Miller has posted back-to-back shutout efforts and seven different Canuck skaters have scored in wins over Philadelphia and Carolina.
Miller posted 30 saves to beat the Flyers 4-0 on Thursday, then turned aside 28 shots in a 3-0 defeat of the Hurricanes the following night. He became the first Canucks goaltender to record shutouts on back-to-back nights since Ken Lockett on April 1-2, 1975 and the first in franchise history to do so in road games on consecutive nights.
Miller picked up his fifth shutout of the season on Friday and 34th of his career.
"Sometimes you need your goalie to bail you out and Ryan did," Vancouver head coach Willie Desjardins said. "It was great to win, but maybe a game we didn't deserve to win without our goaltending."
Derek Dorsett, Shawn Matthias and Alexandre Burrows all scored in the second period and Kevin Bieksa supplied two assists for the Canucks, who wrap their road trip on Tuesday versus Tampa Bay.
The Panthers come in hoping to avoid a season-high fourth loss in a row and they have allowed 14 non-shootout goals over their three-game slide. Florida was last in action on Saturday, when it lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Edmonton Oilers.
The Panthers allowed the Oilers to tie the game while shorthanded in the third period, then failed to score on all three of its shootout attempts. Edmonton got the lone tally of the tiebreaker from Nail Yakupov.
"We had a real bad game tonight. We got outworked in every aspect of the game," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said.
Roberto Luongo made 32 saves, while Erik Gudbranson and Jonathan Huberdeau had the goals as the Panthers lost three straight for the first time since Nov. 4-8.
Florida plays the third of a five-game homestand tonight that resumes versus Detroit following the All-Star break.
Luongo and Miller are likely to square off in a rematch of Florida's 3-1 victory over the Canucks on Jan. 8, giving Luongo a win in his return to Vancouver.
Acquired from the Canucks prior to last season's trade deadline, Luongo made 32 saves to move to 1-1-1 with a 2.41 goals against average and .921 save percentage in four games (3 starts) versus his former club.
Huberdeau had two goals and assisted on Aleksander Barkov's tally.
Miller made 27 saves and is 14-11-2 lifetime versus the Panthers with a 2.52 GAA, .914 save percentage and two shutouts.
The Panthers have won three of their past four against the Canucks overall.
