Ducks' Perry considered signing with Maple Leafs

Corey Perry is happy with his decision to remain a member of the Anaheim Ducks, but he pondered becoming a Toronto Maple Leaf.

Perry re-signed with the Ducks for eight years and $69 million in the spring of 2013, but for a moment, the Ontario native considered moving closer to home.

"There's all kinds of stuff that went into it," Perry told the Los Angeles Times. "It would've been nice to go home and play in front of family and friends every night, but on the other side of things, you have to think about your life and how you want to live it."

He's pleased with the way things have worked out.

"This is the place where I wanted to stay, to live," he said of Orange County, Calif. "Everything's going in the right direction with this organization. There's a lot of depth here and it definitely weighed in on what was going on."

Perry scored 43 goals and added 39 assists in 81 games last season, and he has continued on a near point-per-game pace in 2014-15 amid illness and injury.

He won't be a free agent again until 2021-22, so Maple Leafs fans will just have to accept that one of the NHL's most reliable scorers won't be in blue and white any time soon.
