Maple Leafs' Panik destroyed in open ice, did not return vs. Panthers

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Richard Panik left Sunday's clash with the Florida Panthers shortly after taking this devastating hit in open ice from Scottie Upshall and did not return.

Panik clutched at his helmet and stumbled, but made it to the bench after slamming his head hard on the ice. 

He was quickly ushered to the locker room and is undergoing evaluation to assess a potential head injury under the NHL's concussion protocol.
