CBJ 3, CHI 2: Blue Jackets stay hot with shootout win over Blackhawks

Russell LaBounty / USA TODAY Sports

The Columbus Blue Jackets outlasted the Chicago Blackhawks in a nine round shootout on Saturday night.

The Blue Jackets still aren't healthy, but they're getting it done of late. Saturday's victory was their eighth win in the past nine games.

Here's everything you need to know about Saturday's Blue Jackets victory:

  • Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 39 of 41 shots to lead the Blue Jackets to another win. In the month of December, Bobrovsky has been unconscious, managing a completely ludicrous .944 save percentage.

  • Though Bobrovsky helped the Blue Jackets steal a couple of points from their former division rival, every single Columbus forward line lost their territorial matchup - by even-strength Corsi For percentage - on Saturday night.

  • When Brandon Dubinsky is at his best, he's covering the opposition's best forward so closely he might as well be under their skin. He definitely got under Jonathan Toews'.

  • Recently traded former-Blackhawk Jeremy Morin managed two shots on goal, two hits, two penalties minutes and a shootout tally against his former club. The man he was traded for, Tim Erixon, managed one shot on goal and played just over 11 minutes in the contest.

  • Patrick Sharp is playing on the Blackhawks' third-line since his return from injury, and he's been dynamic in that spot. He was on-fire again on Saturday, scoring a goal and managing seven shots.

  • Realistically, you're not going to lose many games in which you outshoot an opponent as dramatically as Chicago outshot Columbus. Still, it would help if the Blackhawks could execute a 140 foot, 4-on-1 odd-man rush a little bit better than they did on Saturday night.
