Maple Leafs' Ashton assigned to AHL for conditioning

Forward Carter Ashton has been assigned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies for conditioning purposes, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday.
Ashton was suspended for 20 games by the NHL on Nov. 6 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The 23-year-old was held pointless in three games prior to the suspension.
