Flames sign Bob Hartley to multi-year contract extension

The Calgary Flames have rewarded head coach Bob Hartley with a multi-year contract extension, the club announced on Wednesday.

Hartley has guided the undermanned Flames to a surprisingly strong start to the season. Though the club is in the midst of an ugly six-game losing streak, the effort hasn't wavered during his tenure as Calgary's bench boss.

"I've been nothing but impressed with Bob," general manager Brad Treliving said Wednesday. "He's committed to this team and committed to this city."

Treliving hopes the players understand Hartley is now on board for the long-term.

"This should send a clear message to our dressing room that Bob is our guy moving forward," the general manager said. "I know we have the right guy steering the boat."
