Bortuzzo (upper body) felt ill Wednesday morning and will undergo precautionary tests for the mumps.

Analysis:

Since Bortuzzo was already dealing with an upper-body injury that prevented him from playing in Monday's game, the addition of the illness to his medical report probably rules him out of Thursday's contest against the Avalanche. More importantly, the Penguins will hope that Bortuzzo hasn't become the latest casualty to the virus, which has already struck forwards Sidney Crosby and Beau Bennett. Fellow blueliner Olli Maatta and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury were also feeling under the weather Wednesday and will undergo testing for the mumps.
