Oilers welcome MacTavish back to the bench with heartbreaking OT loss

Matt Kartozian / USA Today

General manager Craig MacTavish's first game as interim head coach-ish of the Edmonton Oilers ended in all-too-familiar heartbreak Tuesday.

Arizona Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored 4:59 into the five-minute overtime period after the Oilers made an ill-advised line change in the dying seconds. MacTavish, who replaced Dallas Eakins behind the bench after firing him Monday, could only look on in disbelief as his team let another contest slip away.

MacTavish's expression is similar to one he had after another recent defeat.
