Report: Kings begin extension talks with reigning Conn Smythe winner Williams

John E. Sokolowski / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Kings are eager to re-sign forward Justin Williams, the reigning Conn Smythe winner who is known far and wide by the flattering nickname "Mr. Game 7."

Williams, who is one of the league's top puck-possession wingers, has managed eight goals and 16 total points in 30 games this season. His current deal, a four-year contract that carries a $3.65 million average annual value, will expire after this season.

The Kings began talks with Williams last week, according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun. Though the two sides are interested in reaching an agreement that will keep Williams in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future, Williams' agent Thane Campbell has reportedly informed the team that Williams would prefer not to negotiate in-season.
