Flyers' Laughton, Bruins' Cunningham score 1st goals; who was more excited?

Bob DeChiara / USA TODAY Sports

A pair of talented young players scored their first career NHL goals on Saturday afternoon. That means it's time for a first career NHL goal face off.

Our first competitor is Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton. Laughton beat Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Anton Khudobin on the blocker side with a sweet wrist shot:

That's the face of a first-time NHL goal scorer right there. Perfect, Scott Laughton.

Understandably, Laughton was really excited and it showed through in his first career NHL goal face.

For his hands raised amusingly aloft and his evident childlike wonder, we award Laughton's first career NHL goal face seven points out of 10 on the hyper scientific Tomas Hertl scale.

As for Boston Bruins forward Craig Cunningham, he beat Ottawa Senators netminder Robin Lehner five-hole while short-handed. It's pretty cool when your first career NHL goal is a shorty (even if it's also a softy):

Yeah, Lehner should have had that one. Anyway, Cunningham was understandably super excited and perhaps a little bit surprised that his shot found the back of the net:

For his goofy, surprised grin, we award Cunningham's first career NHL goal face eight out of 10 points on the super scientific Tomas Hertl scale. We also award him the victory in today's "first career goal face off".

Congratulations to both of our competitors.
