Bruins recall 1st-round pick David Pastrnak

Beset by injuries and struggling to muster some offense, the Boston Bruins are looking to an 18-year-old for help.

The club has recalled David Pastrnak from AHL Providence in advance of Monday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to the league's official transaction history

Taken 25th overall by the Bruins in the 2014 draft, Pastrnak recorded five goals and 13 assists in 17 games with Providence, good for a tie for first among all rookies and fourth among all players.

The offensively gifted winger impressed in training camp, but a shoulder injury limited him to two preseason games. His call-up comes on the heels of Boston's 2-0 loss to the rival Montreal Canadiens, and with the Bruins averaging 2.5 goals per game for the season - down from 3.15 last season.

As Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston points out, the Bruins will have a nine-game window to decide whether to keep Pastrnak in Boston. If he returns to Providence before playing a tenth game, he could finish the season in the AHL, and his entry-level contract wouldn't begin until his first NHL season.

Update: The Bruins made the official announcement on Monday, adding that Jordan Caron has also been recalled.
