Analysis:

Smith has been outplayed by backup Devan Dubnyk this season, and although there is no sign of an imminent goalie controversy it is not sustainable for Smith to perform this poorly without losing playing time. He already seems to be losing the trust of coach Dave Tippett, who turned to Dubnyk for the start in three of the Coyotes' previous five games.
