Details continue to trickle out concerning the end of Daniel Alfredsson's lengthy, productive and unlikely career.

The long-time Ottawa Senators captain and Olympic gold medalist has reportedly decided to hang up his skates and an official announcement could some shortly, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Frediman:

Alfredsson played the 2013-14 season with the Detroit Red Wings after signing there as an unrestricted free agent following a public and apparently acrimonious falling out with the Senators in June of 2013. The 41-year-old winger was productive in his final season, managing 49 points in 68 games.

The Senators are visiting the Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena on Monday, though as Friedman hints - it's likely that Alfredsson will receive some sort of send-off at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, On. at some point in the near future.

The Red Wings next play in Kanata on December 27.
