Sharks trade Jason Demers and 3rd-round pick to Stars for Brenden Dillon

The San Jose Sharks have dealt defenseman Jason Demers and a third-round draft pick in 2016 to the Dallas Stars in exchange for blue-liner Brenden Dillon, both teams announced Friday.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun was first to report the trade.

Demers is making $3.15 million this season and is set to earn another $3.65 million in 2015-16, though the Sharks have committed to retaining a sizable chunk of his salary and cap-hit:

The 26-year-old right-handed shooting blue-liner had three assists in 20 games for the Sharks, and played on their second power-play unit.

Dillon has one assist in 20 games for the Stars this season. He's on a $1.25-million one-year contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Demers met the media in San Jose for one last time before packing his bags.
