Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks after the team assigned Scott Darling to AHL Rockford on Friday, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

Raanta was prepared to log full-time duty in place of the injured Corey Crawford, who missed the Blackhawks' previous six games, but he ended up giving way to the high-performing Darling over the last three contests. Darling looks like he could be the more capable backup at this stage now that Crawford's healthy, but Raanta's more expensive NHL contract might have made the team unwilling to dispatch him to the minors. As a result, Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks until further notice, but he'll struggle to see the ice now that Crawford is healthy.
