Lecavalier will not play Thursday in Flyers' only trip to Tampa

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

There will be no homecoming for beloved former Tampa Bay Lightning captain, and current Philadelphia Flyers depth forward, Vincent Lecavalier on Thursday evening.

The 34-year-old forward spent 14 seasons with the Lightning and led the club to the only Stanley Cup in franchise history. He's the only Lightning player in club history to appear in 1000 games with the franchise, and he's also the organization's all-time leading goal scorer.

This season, Lecavalier has been hobbled by a foot injury, which has limited him to just three games. While he was clearly targeting this game for his return, that won't come to pass according to Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune:

So Lecavalier won't play a game in front of the Tampa Bay fans this season, many of whom first became hockey fans as a result of his electric play. That is unless he's traded before the 2015 NHL trade deadline.
