Sharks' Niemi to start Tuesday vs. Avalanche

The San Jose Sharks will go with Antti Niemi between the pipes on Tuesday night when they face the Colorado Avalanche, according to Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com.

For Niemi, generally a workhorse starter who has been splitting starts rather evenly with Alex Stalock in the early going season, it will be his seventh start of the season. Stalock meanwhile has started four games.

While Stalock has outperformed Niemi by save percentage (.924 to .915) and goals against average (2.22 to 2.8), Niemi has been receiving significantly better run support, which explains his superior winning percentage.
